The Viagra Patch

Headlines all over the world, Facebook, Twitter, you name it are lighting up with a huge news item, namely that a fast acting Viagra patch has been created.

The only disappointment if you read carefully is that it may be ready in …just a few years time. Well how frustrating is that for something that men want…YESTERDAY.  In addition it will be very costly but that is usually true for any new medication. A lot of the cost is related to the delivery system apparently.

Well actually there is another bit of disappointing news about this headline. A little research about the viagra patch reveals that a similar story, from an apparently similar source was picked up way back in 2011:

These days of the viral spread of information on the web make sensational headlines profitable for many websites and services, and give talk radio and webcast hosts something to talk about. But it is best to take such information with a grain of salt and have some patience to check the source and accuracy before making decisions based on potentially incomplete data.

On the other hand, here is an exciting new drug called Tecentriq approved for recurrent bladder cancer. Fortunately this condition does not affect even a fraction of the people affected by ED, but it may deserve more attention than it has received in the media.

Hopefully, at least, most urologists and oncologists are familiar with the new treatment. It is only intended for a small subset of the most difficult bladder cancer patients but it has shown some dramatic results in such cases. If you are part of the majority of luckier people who do not have bladder cancer, stop smoking if you are smoking now and that will help prevent you from ever developing it.
